Alexander Zverev will meet Nicolas Jarry in the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 Halle Open. The match will be played on Friday June 23rd, 2023. 

9th seeded Alexander Zverev has been having a resurgence lately on the ATP Tour, with some strong results. He has reached the Quarter-Finals here at the 2023 Halle Open, dismantling Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 16. He served extremely well, winning 82% of his first serve points, and as has been the trend throughout his career, if he serves well, he is extremely difficult to beat. He has never had the strongest results on the grass but he is well equipped for it, and this seems to be heading for a server’s shootout against Nicolas Jarry. 

Nicolas Jarry is unseeded here at the 2023 Halle Open and is ranked 28th in the world. The Chilean has been outstanding over the past couple months, winning two titles and being remarkably consistent. He upset the second seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach this stage, impressively winning 7-6, 7-5 in a greulling encounter. Hitting 6 aces and 32 winners, he will be relying on his power and aggression in order to cause a second successive upset against Alexander Zverev for a spot in the Semi-Finals. 

This should be a fascinating match, and it really can go either way. There is no doubt that Nicolas Jarry has been the better player over the past few months, but after a long struggle, Alexander Zverev is finalyl showing signs of getting back to his best. The both have a quite similar game, relying on big serving and groundstrokes, but I wil give the edge to the German here who moves better and has more experience. Jarry has been a giant-killer this year so I wouldn’t totally rule out the upset, but the smart money is for Zverev to edge this one, in another thriller here at the 2023 Halle Open.
