The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the American Airlines Center on Friday night.

The Brooklyn Nets will be eager to bounce back in this one after coming up painfully short to the Cavaliers in a 114-113 home loss on Wednesday. Cam Thomas led the team with 36 points on 13 of 21 shooting off the bench, Mikal Bridges added 20 points, six rebounds and four assists while Cam Johnson chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Nets shot 50 percent from the field and nine of 27 from the 3-point line as they went back and forth with the Cavaliers in a close contest, until 12.1 seconds left in the game when the Cavaliers’ Donovan Mitchell drained the game-winner to snatch the game from them in the end. Ben Simmons had a mixed outing of four points with 10 rebounds and nine assists while Spencer Dinwiddie scored just five points in 24 minutes of action.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks will be gunning for a second straight victory after outlasting the pesky Spurs in a 126-119 road win on Wednesday. Luka Doncic led the way with a triple-double of 33 points with 13 rebounds and 10 assists, Kyrie Irving added 22 points with six assists while Grant Williams and Tim Hardaway Jr scored 17 points apiece. As a team, the Mavericks shot 47 percent from the field and 15 of 47 from the 3-point line as they got off to a poor start and trailed early on, before they regrouped and worked their way back into the contest to escape with the narrow win.

The Nets will be disappointed with their narrow loss on Wednesday, but to be fair, it would’ve been an absolute blowout loss if not for the hot shooting of Cam Thomas off the bench. The Mavericks were one of the worst defensive teams last season and those issues rose to the front against the Spurs, but their dynamic backcourt was enough to get them over the line and I’m expecting more of the same here. The Nets might be able to hang around till the end, but I still like Irving and Doncic to take care of business at home.
