The Florida International Panthers and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders meet Saturday in college football action from Floyd Stadium. Here’s a Middle Tennessee vs FIU Prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Middle Tennessee vs Florida International pick.

Florida International Panthers Betting Preview

This year the Panthers opened things up with a 2-1 record, losing to Penn State in a blowout shutout on the road in between wins over Bethune-Cookman and Florida Atlantic. Florida International then took a couple of losses consecutively to Delaware and UConn before beating Western Kentucky and falling to Kennesaw State. In the 45-26 home loss to the Owls, the Panthers offense came up with 503 total yards, 207 rush yards, 6.8 yards per play and 23 first downs but went just 6-of-15 on third downs alongside nine total penalties. FIU’s defense gave up 498 yards on the other side with 8.6 yards per play and 20 first downs.

In their latest game versus Missouri State on October 29, the Panthers were able to keep pace 14-14 in the first half. FIU eventually gave up a TD in each quarter during a 28-21 home loss. QB Keyone Jenkins finished with a 15-of-24 line for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Tops in rushing was Kejon Owens with 18 totes for 63 yards, while top receiver C’Quan Jnopierre had three catches for 57 yards to top the receivers in the losing effort.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Middle Tennessee side, they took losses in their first two games this year versus Austin Peay and Wisconsin before notching a tight one-point road win over Nevada in their third outing. MTSU hit the skids after that though, falling to Marshall, Kennesaw State, Missouri State and Delaware in the next four games. In the loss to the Hens, the Raiders were up by a touchdown at the end of the first quarter, then gave up 17 unanswered points in a 31-28 result. The offense had two turnovers in the defeat and the team committed nine total penalties. MTSU’s defense had a couple of takeaways but also gave up 9-of-17 on third downs.

In their most recent matchup last Wednesday versus Jacksonville State, the Blue Raiders were up 14-7 going into the final frame. Middle Tennessee was outpaced 17-7 in the fourth quarter however, leading to a disappointing home loss 24-21. Quarterback Nicholas Vattiato posted a 23-of-45 line for 235 yards, two scores and a pick while leading rusher Jekail Middlebrook had 10 carries for 20 yards and a touchdown. Middlebrook was also the leading receiver during the losing effort with six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Middle Tennessee vs Florida International Prediction

I’m likely just staying with FIU. The Panthers need a livelier effort than they got versus Missouri State in their last outing, though. Florida International finished with two lost fumbles, eight penalties and a pretty rough 6-of-16 success rate on third-down tries in their most recent defeat. On the other side the defense gave up 369 yards—206 of which came on the ground—and 8-of-16 on third-down conversions. Florida International has 21 or more points in three straight games despite going 1-2 in that time.

As for Middle Tennessee, they lost the handle late versus Jacksonville State in their last matchup. The Raiders finished with 319 total yards on offense in that one with 4.8 yards per play, 18 first downs and just 84 rush yards. Despite the losing streak—which is up to five games now—the Raiders have 20 or more points in four of those outings. Still, I don’t think they’ll keep up with the Panthers Saturday.
