In this article we will formulate a Virginia vs Wake Forest prediction for this College Football game on Saturday, November 8th at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this week 11 matchup.

Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

The Virginia Cavaliers are 8-1 (5-0) this year after they defeated California by a score of 31-21 last week. Virginia led 17-7 at halftime, but that lead was cut to 24-21 in the fourth, before they put the game away with a pick-six in the final minute. The Cavaliers out gained Cal by a total of 456-263, went 10-19 on third downs, and won the turnover battle by a total of 2-0 in the game. Chandler Morris went 24-36 for 262 yards, while J’Mari Taylor rushed 21 times for 105 yards and two scores. Trell Harris led the receivers with five catches for 68 yards in the win. The UVA defense recorded four sacks and six tackles for loss in the game.

Prior to that game, Virginia defeated North Carolina by a score of 17-16 and Washington State by a score of 22-20. The Cavaliers have won seven games in a row and they are currently first in the ACC standings. Virginia has scored 36.4 points per game with 252.3 passing yards and 186.7 rushing yards per game, while they have allowed 22.2 points against per game this season. Chandler Morris has thrown for 2,069 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions, while J’Mari Taylor has rushed 150 times for 686 yards and 11 scores this year.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 5-3 (2-3) this season after they lost to Florida State by a score of 42-7 in their last game. Wake Forest trailed 14-0 at halftime and allowed the first 28 points in the second half for the very ugly loss. The Demon Deacons were out gained by a total of 421-247, went 6-16 on third downs, and lost the turnover battle by a total of 2-1 in the game. Robby Ashford went 12-21 for 93 yards and one interception, while also rushing for 59 yards and 12 carries. Micah Mays Jr led the receivers with five receptions for 51 yards and one score in the loss. The Wake defense recorded three sacks and 10 tackles for loss in the game.

Prior to that game, Wake Forest defeated SMU by a score of 13-12 and Oregon State by a score of 39-14. The Demon Deacons have won three of their last four games and they are currently tied for eighth in the ACC standings. Wake Forest has scored 24.3 points per game with 234.5 passing yards and 141.4 rushing yards per game, while they have allowed 21.8 points against per game this season. Neither quarterback has played very well this year, so we may see Robby Ashford or Deshawn Purdie in this one, while Demond Claiborne has rushed for 639 yards and eight scores on 106 carries this season.

Why the Virginia Cavaliers will win

  • Wake Forest has lost each of its last 10 games in November.
  • Virginia has won each of its last seven games.
  • Wake Forest has failed to cover the spread in seven of its last eight games against AP-ranked teams.
  • Virginia has covered the spread in four of its last five home games.
  • Wake Forest has lost the first half in three of its last four road games against conference opponents.
  • Virginia has won the first quarter in five of its last six games against conference opponents.

Total Points Facts

  • Nine of Wake Forest’s last 10 road games against top-15 AP-ranked teams have gone UNDER the total points line.
  • Each of Virginia’s last four November home games against non-AP-ranked teams have gone OVER the total points line.

Matchup/League Facts

  • Virginia has played in the equal-highest number of games that went to overtime this season (3).
  • Virginia ranks 7th among FBS teams for Q4 opponent points per game this season (2.9).
  • Wake Forest has recorded the equal-most home wins by a margin of five points or less of any FBS team this season (2).
  • Wake Forest has recorded the equal-most home wins by a margin of three points or less of any FBS team this season (2).

Virginia vs Wake Forest Prediction

Virginia comes into this matchup looking to stay perfect in ACC play, as they are currently all alone in first place. The Cavaliers have had a favorable schedule and they have survived three of their last five games going to overtime, but they do have a nice passing attack. Wake Forest was blown out last week by FSU and I just don’t love their offense at all. The Demon Deacons really lack a clear number one option at quarterback, which allows the defense to really focus on slowing down Claiborne. I don’t think Virginia is as good as their record would suggest, but I like them to cover here.
