NC State vs Wake Forest 11/5/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The NC State Wolfpack and Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Saturday in week 10 ACC college football action from Carter-Finley. Wake Forest is coming off a matchup versus Louisville. In that game the Deacons fell in a blowout. As for NC State, they’re 6-2 overall and fresh off a one-point win over Virginia Tech. Wake Forest rolled through their first three games, taking out VMI, Vanderbilt and Liberty. The Deacons then fell to Clemson in overtime, but bounced back with wins over Florida State, Army and Boston College in the next trio of outings. 

In the Louisville matchup last weekend, Wake Forest had a 14-13 edge coming out of halftime. The Deacons coughed up a whopping 35 third-quarter points and lost 48-21, however. QB Sam Hartman had 271 yards with a TD and three picks. Will Towns rushed seven times for 54 yards. 

Over on the NC State side, they won their first four games this year versus East Carolina, Charleston Southern, Texas Tech and UConn. After a loss to Clemson, the Wolfpack beat Florida State, lost to Syracuse and beat Virginia Tech. 

In the Virginia Tech game back on Thursday, the Wolfpack were down 21-10 going into the final quarter. NC State posted 12 unanswered points from there in a 22-21 comeback win. QB MJ Morris posted 265 yards with three scores, and Thayer Thomas caught 10 balls for 118 yards and two TDs. 

The Deacons are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. Wake Forest is 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. 

Meanwhile, the Wolfpack are 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 in November. NC State is 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss. 

PICK: I’m probably sticking with NC State but not touching it. The Wolfpack get credit for a great comeback win versus Virginia Tech, but it was a close one. NC State held the Hokies to 10 first downs and a 1-of-11 rate on third-down tries (Virginia Tech’s 13 penalties didn’t hurt either). NC State’s offense hasn’t posted great production lately either; they’ve hit 22 or fewer points in each of the last four games. 

As for Wake Forest, they’re coming off an ugly loss to Louisville, highlighted by a whopping eight turnovers (four picks; four fumbles). Outside of that, the Deacons didn’t play too badly but it’s going to be a tough loss to shake.
