Davidson enters this one at 5-4 so far. The Wildcats had won consecutive games before falling to Richmond in their last outing. As for VCU, they’re 8-2 this season. The Rams are riding a six-game winning streak, most recently taking out Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Davidson kicked off the year at 3-3, beating High Point, UNLV and Georgia Southern while otherwise falling to Texas, Providence and Charlotte. The Wildcats then won their next two games over Rhode Island 67-58 and Vanderbilt 85-65 before falling to Richmond 80-74 on Wednesday.
In the loss to the Spiders, Davidson’s Lee Hyun-jin led the team on 17 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Luka Brajkovic doubled up on 14 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Sam Mennenga logged 13 points with six boards, and Carter Collins chipped in 12 points.
Over on the VCU side, they started out the year at 2-2, beating Utah State and Memphis while otherwise dropping to West Virginia and Penn State. Since then it’s been a six-game winning streak for the Rams. They’ve beaten Mount St. Mary’s, NC A&T, Old Dominion, WCU, James Madison and Saint Joseph’s in that stretch.
In the 80-64 win over Saint Joseph’s, VCU’s lead scorer was Vince Williams on 17 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Adrian Baldwin added 12 points with four boards, while Levi Stockard, KeShawn curry and Jamir Watkins each contributed 10 points for the Rams.
The Rams are 4-1 ATS in the last five home games and 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games. VCU is 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall and the under is 4-0 in their last four Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games. The over is 12-5-1 in Davidson’s last 18 overall and 7-2-1 in their last 10 road games.
PICK: I’m sticking with VCU here. Davidson has notched some pretty solid offensive outings this year, and they’ve scored 159 combined points over their last two games. VCU is scoring well also, with 77 or more points in each of their last five outings. This one should be pretty close initially, but I like the Rams’ offense to pull away in the second half and bang out a cover.
