Wisconsin opened up the season with three straight wins before falling to Marquette in a stunner. The Badgers bounced back with five more wins, culminating in a victory over Michigan State. After that it was a 70-64 loss to Maryland and a 71-59 victory over Minnesota on New Year’s Eve.
In the win over the Gophers, Wisconsin’s Micah Potter led the team with 18 points, 11 rebounds and two assists. Both Aleem Ford and D’Mitrik Trice scored 14 points apiece there, combining for seven assists and eight rebounds for the Badgers as well.
Over on the Penn State side, they opened the year at 3-1, falling to Seton Hall while otherwise beating VMI, VCU and Virginia Tech. Since then it’s been three straight losses for the Nittany Lions. Those have come 62-58 to Michigan, 98-81 to Illinois and 87-85 to Indiana.
In the loss to the Hoosiers, Penn State’s Myreon Jones led the team on 20 points with four rebounds and one assist. Sam Sessoms added 17 points with three assists and one rebound, while Izaiah Brockington managed 15 points with two boards and two assists in 30 minutes.
Penn State is 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 after an ATS win. The Lions are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall and the under is 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games.
Meanwhile, Wisconsin is 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven Sunday games. The over is 5-0 in the Badgers’ last five Sunday games and 5-2 in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Penn State. The Nittany Lions have been scoring pretty well overall this season, with just one game featuring less than 72 points. Penn State has given up a combined 185 combined points over their last two games however, and Wisconsin should post a good total here as well. That said, I still like the Lions to keep a relative pace here and get into a cover. Should be an interesting matchup.
