Southern Illinois-Edwardsville vs Eastern Illinois College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 2/2/21

The Eastern Illinois Panthers and the SIU Edwardsville Cougars meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Vadalabene Center. 

Eastern Illinois enters this one at 5-13 so far. The Panthers have lost eight straight games, most recently to Southeast Missouri State. As for SIU Edwardsville, they’re 6-7 this year. Eastern Illinois started out the year at 5-5 with wins over Chicago State, Green Bay, Western Illinois, Tennessee Tech and Murray State. Since then it’s been a string of eight straight losses for the Panthers; they’ve dropped to SIU Edwardsville, UT-Martin and Southeast Missouri State in their last three. 

In the loss to the Redhawks on Saturday 75-44, the Panthers’ lead scorer was Josiah Wallace with 11 points, five rebounds and one assist. Kashawn Charles chipped in eight points with two rebounds in 19 minutes on the floor as well. 

Over on the SIU Edwardsville side, their year began at 3-4 with wins over St. Louis Pharmacy, Northern Illinois and Morehead State. The Cougars went 3-2 in their next five with victories over Tennessee State, Eastern Illinois and UT-Martin. 

In Monday’s game against Austin Peay, SIU Edwardsville shot just 35.8 percent from the floor and went 3-of-16 on 3-pointers in a 74-59 blowout loss. Leading the Cougars in scoring was Sidney Wilson with 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. 

The Cougars are 1-8 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 at home versus a team with a losing road record. The over is 4-0 in SIU Edwardsville’s last four Tuesday games and the under is 7-2 in their last nine overall. 

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 road games and 17-37 ATS in their last 54 overall. The under is 6-0 in Eastern Illinois’ last six road games and 4-1 in their last five overall. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with SIU Edwardsville here. The last time these teams met up was an 87-74 victory for the Cougars. SIUE shot 53.2 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Panthers 39-25. Eastern Illinois had a six-point deficit at the break and couldn’t gain any ground in the second half after coughing up 52 points to the Cougars. This one may be close initially but I like SIUE to bounce back from a bad Monday game and cover.
