The Southern Utah Thunderbirds and the Weber State Wildcats meet Thursday in college basketball action from Dee Events Center. 

Southern Utah enters this one at 10-2 so far. The Thunderbirds are coming off a split pair of games with Eastern Washington. As for Weber State, they’re currently 6-3 this year. The Wildcats have won three straight and are coming off a win over Tarleton State. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place. 

Southern Utah began their year with a loss to LMU, but then won their next nine games against St. Katherine, Montana, Utah Valley, Dixie State, Bethesda and Idaho. After a loss to Eastern Washington, the Thunderbirds bounced back Saturday with a win in the rematch 99-94. 

In the Saturday victory over the Eagles, Southern Utah’s Tevian Jones led the team on 27 points with four rebounds and one assist. John Knight added 21 points with two rebounds and two assists, and Aanen Moody chipped in 14 points with four boards in 14 minutes of work. 

Over on the Weber State side, they opened the year at 3-1 with a loss to Boise State and wins over Adams State, Westminster UT and Portland State. After a loss to the Vikings, Weber State won their next pair, the most recent being a 94-79 win over Tarleton State on Sunday. 

In the win over the Texans, Weber State’s Zahir Porter put up 23 points with five assists and four rebounds to lead the team. Isiah Bitemn added 22 points with nine boards and five assists, and Seikou Sisoho Jawara added 14 points, three rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes. 

The Wildcats are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Thursday games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 after a straight-up win. Weber State is 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 6-14 ATS in their last 20 after an ATS win. 

Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six Thursday games. Southern Utah is 2-7 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win and the over is 6-1 in their last seven road games. 

PICK: I’m sticking with Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds had a hiccup in their loss to Eastern Washington last week, but otherwise they’ve been playing good basketball. Southern Utah has hit 75 points or more in eight of their last nine games, and only lost once during that stretch. Weber State has a decent offense themselves and can probably put up a fight here, but I like the Thunderbirds to eventually eke out a cover/win.
