South Dakota State vs South Dakota College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 2/5/21

The South Dakota Coyotes and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits meet Friday in college basketball action from Frost Arena. 

South Dakota comes in here at 10-6 so far. The Coyotes are riding a nine-game win streak and coming off a victory versus Omaha. As for South Dakota State, they’re 10-3 this year. South Dakota began the year at 1-6 with only a win over South Dakota State. Starting December 20, the Coyotes notched wins in their next nine over Mount Marty, Denver, UM Kansas City, Western Illinois and Omaha. 

In the 97-93 win over Omaha on Saturday, South Dakota’s AJ Plitzuweit put up 37 points with eight assists and three rebounds. Stanley Umude added 24 points with five assists and eight rebounds, and Xavier Fuller posted 15 points with five rebounds and three assists. 

Over on the South Dakota State side, their year began at 5-3 with wins over Utah State, Iowa State, Bradley, North Dakota State and North Dakota. The Jackrabbits have won five straight since then: one versus Mount Marty and two apiece versus Western Illinois and North Dakota. 

In the 85-74 win over North Dakota on January 23, South Dakota State’s Doug Wilson posted 23 points with six rebounds and three assists. Alex Arians added 15 points and five rebounds, and Baylor Scheierman doubled up on 14 points with 11 rebounds and five assists. 

The Jackrabbits are 26-11 ATS in their last 37 games overall and 39-19-1 ATS in their last 59 home games. South Dakota State is 7-18 ATS in their last 25 Friday games and the over is 5-0 in their last five overall. 

Meanwhile, South Dakota is 2-6 ATS in their last eight Friday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win. The Coyotes are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and the over is 3-1-1 in their last five overall. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with South Dakota State. This should be a pretty interesting matchup and a fun one to watch, though. The Coyotes have scored well over their last three games, with 84 or more in each outing. The Jackrabbits have scored well themselves, notching 71 or more in each of their last 10 games and going 9-1 during that time. South Dakota won 91-78 last time these teams matched up, and I like the Jackrabbits to bag a revenge cover here.
