Nicholls State vs Houston Baptist College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 2/24/21

The Houston Baptist Huskies and the Nicholls State Colonels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Stopher Gym. 

Houston Baptist enters this one at 4-14 so far. The Huskies are 1-2 in their last three games and coming off a loss to Northwestern State. As for Nicholls State, they’re currently 13-6 so far. Houston Baptist has had a rough go of things this year, and they haven’t been able to string together consecutive victories just yet. The Huskies are 2-2 in their last four games, though. They’ve got wins over Incarnate Word and Lamar with losses to Abilene Christian and Northwestern State in that time. 

In the 86-80 loss to Northwestern State on Monday, Houston Baptist’s Brycen Long and Jade Tse each notched 14 points, combining for four assists and five rebounds. Pedro Castro doubled up in that one with 13 points and 10 rebounds. 

Over on the Nicholls State side, they had a five-game losing streak going in early January, but since then they’ve taken wins in 11 of their last 12 games. Over their last three, the Colonels have beaten Lamar, SE Louisiana and Central Arkansas. 

In the 79-68 win over Central Arkansas, Nicholls State’s Andre Jones put up 24 points with seven rebounds and two assists. Jitaurious Gordon added 22 points with three assists and two rebounds, and Ryghe Lyons doubled up on 14 points and 11 boards. 

The Colonels are 0-5 ATS in their last five overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four as a favorite. Nicholls State is 1-4 ATS in their last five as an underdog and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. 

Meanwhile, the Huskies are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games and 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 overall. Houston Baptist is 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss. 

PICK: I’m going to take the Colonels here. Nicholls State has been scoring quite well during this 11-1 stretch, posting 71 or more points in every outing. Houston Baptist has hit 80 points in each of their last two games, but they’ve also been giving up points at a hefty clip. I like Nicholls State to take advantage of that with a big offensive effort in this one.
