The DePaul Blue Demons and the UConn Huskies meet Thursday in college basketball action from Madison Square Garden.
Coming into this Big East Tournament matchup, DePaul sits at 5-13 overall. The Demons took out Providence in the tournament on Wednesday. As for UConn, they’re 14-6 this year. The Huskies have won four in a row, most recently to Georgetown. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
DePaul has had some issues this season, as evidenced by their 3-5 start. The Demons won just one game from January 23 to March 10, but the latest victory was a big one. DePaul took out Providence in tourney action on Wednesday.
In the Wednesday tournament win over Providence, DePaul was behind 36-35 at the break but surged in the second half for a comeback 70-62 result. Topping the team were Charlie Moore and Javon Freeman-Liberty, each with 21 points.
Over on the UConn side, they started out their year at 7-1 before a rough patch at 1-4 in January and early February. Since then it’s been a 6-1 run for the Huskies, however. UConn has taken out Georgetown, Marquette, Seton Hall and Georgetown again in their last four.
In the 98-82 win over the Hoyas on Saturday, UConn’s James Bouknight put up 21 points with three rebounds and two assists. Jalen Gaffney added 15 points, and Amada Sanogo doubled up on 10 points, 10 rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes of work.
UConn is 4-0-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 20-8-2 ATS in their last 30 after an ATS win. The Huskies are 21-8-1 ATS in their last 30 overall and the under is 5-1 in the last six neutral-site games.
Meanwhile, DePaul is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Thursday games and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. The under is 4-1 in the Demons’ last five Thursday games as well.
PICK: I’m likely going to stick with UConn here. The Huskies have been on a nice run over this 6-1 stretch, notching 70 or more points in all six of their victories. DePaul had a great comeback win on Wednesday, but the Huskies should have all the control on the cover if they play to their capabilities. Should be an interesting matchup regardless.
