The North Texas Mean Green and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet Friday in college basketball action from Ford Center at the Star.
Coming into this Conference USA Tournament matchup, the Mean Green are 15-9 so far. North Texas took out Old Dominion in the tourney on Thursday. As for Louisiana Tech, they’re 21-6 this year. North Texas went 5-5 over their first 10 games, but then hit a nice stretch in January. The Mean Green posted eight wins in their next nine games. North Texas came into the tournament on an 0-3 skid but got it back with wins over Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion.
In the 61-55 win over Old Dominion in the tournament on Thursday, North Texas was down 31-26 at the break but posted a nice effort in the second half. Leading the way for the Green was Javion Hamlet with 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
Over on the Louisiana Tech side, they’ve been quite consistent this season, losing consecutive games just once in early January. Since then, the Bulldogs have gone 13-2 in their last 15 games, and they took out Florida Atlantic in their last outing Thursday.
In the 75-69 win over Florida Atlantic, the Bulldogs held a slim one-point edge at the break and kept it going with 38 second-half points. Tops on the team was Isaiah Crawford with 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
LA Tech is 6-1 ATS in the last seven Friday games and 16-5 ATS in their last 21 overall. The under is 10-4-1 in the Bulldogs’ last 15 overall and 4-1 in their last five after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Green are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 neutral-site games and 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight overall. The under is 4-0 in their last four Friday games and 8-3 in their last 11 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Louisiana Tech. This should be a pretty good matchup, though. The last time these teams met up we had a split; the Green took one 57-55 and the Bulldogs got a victory 68-63. LA Tech has been scoring quite well lately with 75 or more in each of their last four. I think the Bulldogs have a nice shot at a cover if they can get their offense going.
