The Northwestern State Demons and the Nicholls State Colonels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Stopher Gym.

Northwestern State enters this one at 7-14 so far. The Demons have won five straight and are coming off a win over McNeese. As for Nicholls State, they’re 12-6 this year. The Colonels have won consecutive games over Lamar and SE Louisiana. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Northwestern State didn’t have much luck to start the season, going 2-14 over their first 16 outings. Since then it’s been five straight wins, though. Those have come versus SE Louisiana, New Orleans, Central Arkansas, Incarante Word and McNeese.

In the 69-66 win over McNeese on Saturday, Northwestern State’s Carvell Teasett led the way on 17 points with one assist in 15 minutes. Jamaure Gregg added 12 points with four boards and Trenton Massner posted 10 points with two rebounds and one assist.

Over on the Nicholls State side, they began the year at 2-5 with wins over UC Davis and Idaho State to their credit. The Colonels have lost just once in their last 11 games (to Sam Houston State), and has taken out Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana in their last pair.

In the 86-84 OT win over SE Louisiana on Saturday, Nicholls’ Najee Garvin topped the team on 30 points with seven rebounds and one assist. Jaylen Fornes added 15 points with two assists and three rebounds in 35 minutes on the floor as well.

The Colonels are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 0-3-1 ATS in the last four after an ATS loss. Nicholls is 0-4 ATS in the last four overall and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six as a favorite.

Meanwhile, Northwestern State is 4-0-1 ATS in their last five road games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall. The Demons are 13-5-1 ATS in their last 19 Wednesday games and the under is 6-2-1 in the last nine overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Nicholls here. The Colonels and Demons last met up on January 13 in a 76-66 Nicholls victory. The Colonels held a relatively slim 40-36 lead at the break but were able to widen the gap in the second half. Unless the Demons unleash a scoring flurry here I think Nicholls is in better position for the cover.
