The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and Memphis Tigers meet Tuesday in college basketball action at the FedExForum. The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles have nowhere to go but up after just five wins last season. The Memphis Tigers look to take a step forward after winning the NIT last season.

The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles return their best player and two of their top-three scorers from last season. Jr. Clay returns after averaging 17.3 points and 2.9 rebounds, while Keishawn Davidson averaged 11.1 points and 4.4 assists. Shandon Goldman dished 1.6 assists and Kenny White Jr. averaged 3.4 rebounds. The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles have one of the best players in the OVC and some decent depth from a year ago. This should be an improved squad and a much better season for Tennessee Tech.

The Memphis Tigers enter the season as a top-15 team and have to be thinking about the national title at this point. Landers Nolley II returns after averaging 13.1 points and 4.1 rebounds, while DeAndre Williams averaged 11.7 points and 3.4 assists. Lester Quinones grabbed 5.8 rebounds and Alex Lomax dished 4.2 assists. Memphis not only returns key players from a year ago, but it gets Earl Timberlake as a transfer and two five-star recruits in Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren. Penny Hardaway has Memphis heading in the right direction, and this program should be thinking about a deep tournament run.

The Golden Eagles are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a road underdog. The Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games and 15-2 ATS in their last 17 games overall. The over is 6-1 in Golden Eagles last 7 overall. The under is 35-16-1 in Tigers last 52 overall.

The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles have talent and likely won’t be a pushover this season, but the Memphis Tigers are on a much different level, and they have to be thinking about Final Four or better this season. Memphis needs to get off to a fast start if it’s going to fulfil expectations this year. Memphis was also a covering machine much of last year. Thick number, but it’s Memphis or pass for me.
