The Eastern Washington Eagles and the UC Davis Aggies meet Friday in college basketball action from the Pavilion. Eastern Washington is coming off a 15-point loss to Nevada in their opener. Eastern Washington had a pretty good season in 2020-21. The Eagles finished 16-8 overall and a nice 12-3 in the Big Sky Conference for a third-place finish. Eastern Washington managed to win the Big Sky Tournament with a victory over Montana State but lost to Kansas in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Eagles played Nevada in their opener on Tuesday. Eastern Washington would end up falling 91-76 after a 43-34 first-half deficit. The team’s leading scorer was Linton Acliese with 19 points, 12 rebounds and one assist. Angel Allegri added 13 points and seven boards.
Over on the UC Davis side, they managed a 10-8 overall record last year with a 6-4 mark in Big West Conference play. The Aggies finished in fourth place and were able to beat Cal State Bakersfield in the first round of the conference tournament before falling to UC Santa Barbara.
UC Davis posted a nice win over Utah State in their opener, jumping out to a 40-35 halftime edge toward a 72-69 result. Elijah Pepper was the top scorer there, with 16 points, five assists, two rebounds and three steals. Christian Anigwe chipped in with 14 points and six boards as well.
The Aggies are 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win and 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 as a favorite. UC Davis is 7-26-1 ATS in their last 34 Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 road games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 as a favorite. Eastern Washington is 5-2 ATS in their last seven Friday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a shot on UC Davis, but probably staying away. The Aggies didn’t shoot particularly well (39.7 percent) from the field in their Utah State win, but they were solid on the boards with 41 rebounds and made 20 of their 27 free throw attempts. UC Davis has some things to clean up, like the 19 turnovers and the 24 fouls, but overall it was a solid and competitive win. I like this one to be close initially with the Aggies pulling out a late cover.
