The Hofstra Pride and the Duquesne Dukes meet Saturday in college basketball action from UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. Hofstra played Houston in their first outing of the year, nearly pulling off an upset in an OT loss. As for Duquesne, they were able to beat Rider by 12 points in their opener. Hofstra posted a 13-10 overall record last year, going 8-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Pride managed a fourth-place finish in the standings and beat Delaware in the Quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament before a season-ending loss to Elon.

The Pride had Houston down 37-31 at halftime in their opener this week, but the Cougars fought back to force an extra period. Hofstra eventually lost 83-75. Zach Cooks was the team’s top scorer with 26 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Over on the Duquesne side, they went .500 last year at 9-9 overall and 7-7 in A-10 Conference games. The Dukes posted a 67-62 win over Richmond in the Second Round of the A-10 Tournament but then lost to St. Bonaventure 75-59 in the Quarterfinals.

The Dukes were able to dispatch Rider 73-61 in their opener game despite falling behind 33-30 at halftime. Duquesne scored 43 points in the second half on the way to the victory. Kevin Easley was the team’s top scorer with 16 points and two rebounds.

The Dukes are 6-0 ATS in their last six at home and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 overall. Duquesne is 4-0 ATS in the last four Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Pride are 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 Saturday games. The over is 8-2 in Hofstra’s last 10 overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Hofstra here. The Pride nearly pulled off a great win this week versus Houston, but couldn’t hang on down the stretch. Hofstra shot 39.2 percent from the floor with 42 rebounds and 13 team assists in a solid overall effort.

As for the Dukes, they started slow in their win this week but ultimately prevailed thanks to 40 percent 3-point shooting and a nice 13-of-13 from the line. Duquesne displayed some solid discipline with only seven total turnovers as well. I like Duquesne to be in the mix most of the game here, but I ultimately like the Pride on a potential cover.
