The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights and the Northwestern Wildcats meet Thursday in college basketball action from Welsh-Ryan Arena. Fairleigh Dickinson sits at 0-1 so far after a loss to Seton Hall and a postponed game versus Drexel. As for Northwestern, they’re 3-0 and coming off a win over New Orleans. Fairleigh Dickinson posted a disappointing 9-15 record overall last year, with a 8-10 mark in the Northeast Conference. The Knights ended up just two spots out of the basement in the standings and finished the year on a 2-6 run.

In their first matchup of the 2021-22 season the Knights got off to a slow start against Seton Hall. Fairleigh Dickinson posted just 20 first-half points on the way to a 93-49 blowout loss. Brandon Rush led the team in scoring with 19 points and two rebounds.

Over on the Northwestern side, their opener game came against Eastern Illinois. The Wildcats didn’t have much trouble in that one during an 80-56 win. It was the same in game two versus High Point; Northwestern emerged with a 95-60 victory.

On Tuesday versus New Orleans, the Wildcats kept up their dominant run. Northwestern had a two-point deficit at halftime but surged from there in an 83-67 win. Pete Nance was tops on the team with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

The Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 home games. The under is 4-1 in Northwestern’s last five Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Knights are 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall and the under is 4-0 in their last four overall. The under is 5-1 in the Knights’ last six road games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Northwestern. This one’s a little tricky, though; we’ve only seen Fairleigh Dickinson in one outing—and it wasn’t a very good one. The Knights shot just 28.1 percent against Seton Hall, making 1-of-15 3-pointers (6.7 percent) with 16 turnovers. It certainly wasn’t a great start.

As for the Wildcats, they did start slow against New Orleans but to their credit they turned it on after halftime. Northwestern shot 45.5 percent from the floor and won the rebound battle 36-33. If the Wildcats can get off to a good start here I don’t see Fairleigh Dickinson keeping up.
