The Western Illinois Leathernecks and the DePaul Blue Demons meet Saturday in college basketball action from Wintrust Arena. Western Illinois is 3-0 so far and beat Iowa Wesleyan in their last outing. As for DePaul, they’re 3-0 as well and coming off a three-point win over Rutgers. Western Illinois got off to a nice start this year against Nebraska. The Leathernecks ended up eking out a 75-74 win thanks to a couple of key 3-pointers late. Game two was another victory for Western Illinois, this time 91-69 over Culver Stockton.

On Tuesday in their last outing, the Leathernecks added another win over Iowa Wesleyan. Western Illinois bagged 53 points in the first half alone on the way to a 97-71 blowout win. Will Caries led the team with 16 points, two assists and two steals.

Over on the DePaul side, they kicked off their year against Coppin State. The Demons scored 56 second-half points there during a 97-72 win. In game two against Central Michigan, DePaul logged another blowout win 99-66.

The Demons saw their first challenge of the year versus Rutgers in their last game. DePaul held a 33-29 halftime edge and were able to hang on for a 73-70 victory. Tops in scoring was David Jones with 22 points and five rebounds.

DePaul is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six as a favorite. The over is 4-0 in the Demons’ last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Leathernecks are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 overall. WIU is 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games.

PICK: I’m sticking with DePaul. The Blue Demons are coming off a strong effort versus Rutgers, despite getting outplayed in some key categories. DePaul shot 42.6 percent from the field with 36 rebounds (to Rutgers’ 39) but notched only nine assists.

As for WIU, they’ve got three solid wins under their belts but should have their hands full in this one. We should have an interesting matchup here, but I think DePaul will pull out a cover in the end.
