The Morehead State Eagles and the Mississippi State Bulldogs meet Sunday in college basketball action from Humphrey Coliseum. Morehead State is sitting at 2-2 and fresh off a win over Transylvania. Morehead State had a rough matchup against Auburn in their opener, and couldn’t get close in a 77-54 defeat. Another defeat came in game two 85-71 against UAB, but the Eagles managed an 82-57 win over Kentucky Christian in game three.
Back on Thursday against Transylvania, the Eagles were able to get back to .500 on the year. Morehead State scored 49 points in the second half on the way to an 84-59 win. Skyelar Potter topped the team with his 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Over on the Mississippi State side, they had a good opener outing versus North Alabama, scoring 38 points in the second half in a 75-49 win. Same with game two against Montana; the Bulldogs surged for an 86-49 result in their second victory.
In game three against Detroit, Mississippi State posted a 39-31 first-half edge on the way to a 77-64 victory. Tops in scoring were Iverson Molinar and Shakeel Moore, each with 19 points and a combined eight assists.
MS State is 13-6 ATS in their last 19 Sunday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five at home. The under is 5-1 in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games and 2-5 ATS in the last seven Sunday games. The under is 10-4 in Morehead State’s last 14 Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Mississippi State. The Bulldogs shot a blistering 59.2 percent from the field in the win over Detroit, along with 8-of-16 from 3-point range and 16 team assists. The Titans didn’t shoot badly (43.6 percent) but just couldn’t keep up.
As for Morehead State, they’ve been a mixed bag so far. If the Eagles can get their offense going I can see them staying in it for a while, but I don’t think they’ll get a cover.
