The UC Riverside Highlanders and the UTEP Miners meet Monday in college basketball action from Don Haskins Center. UC Riverside is 3-2 so far this year and fresh off a win over Bethesda. UC Riverside had some issues against San Diego State in their opener during a 66-53 loss, but got better in game two against Arizona State with a 66-65 win. The next pair were a win over La Sierra 72-54 and a loss to San Diego 74-62.
In game five versus Bethesda, the Highlanders got back to business with a 95-57 win. UC Riverside posted 50 points in the second half to ice the victory. Both Flynn Cameron and JP Moorman scored 18 points to lead the team.
Over on the UTEP side, they had no trouble with Western NM in their opener with an 85-57 win. After a loss to New Mexico State 77-71 in game two, the Miners bounced back for an 88-53 win over Northern New Mexico.
In Friday’s game versus Pacific, the Miners posted a 43-35 first-half advantage and rode the wave to a 73-64 win. Souley Boum was the top scorer on the team with 29 points, six rebounds and three assists.
The Miners are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 Monday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. UTEP is 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 overall and 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games. The under is 6-2 in UC Riverside’s last eight overall.
PICK: I’m going to try UTEP here. This should be a pretty interesting matchup, though. The Miners shot a solid 45.3 percent from the floor in their last game versus Pacific, collecting 33 rebounds and 12 assists along the way. The 18 turnovers and 28 fouls weren’t helpful, but UTEP got the job done.
As for UC Riverside, if they can get to scoring early I think they can hang around here for a while. This is probably UTEP’s cover, though.
