The Memphis Tigers and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Barclays Center. Memphis is 4-0 this season so far and took out Western Kentucky in their last game. As for Virginia Tech, they’re 5-0 and fresh off a win over Merrimack. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Memphis has gotten off to a dominant start this year, recording four straight double-digit wins. The Tigers’ first three came courtesy of Tennessee Tech 89-65, North Carolina Central 90-51 and Saint Louis 90-74.

Memphis kept the W train rolling in game for versus Western Kentucky. The Tigers were tied 38-38 at halftime and scored 36 points from there in a 74-62 win. Jalen Duren topped the team with 22 points and 19 rebounds in 31 minutes.

Over on the Virginia Tech side, they haven’t had any issues yet either. The Hokies cruised through their first four games, notching wins over Maine 82-47, Navy 77-57, Radford 65-39 and St. Francis PA 85-55 to start at 4-0.

Game five was another win for the Hokies. This time Virginia Tech outscored Merrimack 34-18 in the first half on the way to a 72-43 win. Leading contributor Storm Murphy finished with 14 points, one assist and one steal.

The Hokies are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games and 5-0 ATS in their last five overall. Virginia Tech is 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last six neutral-site games and 17-4 ATS in their last 21 overall. The under is 4-1 in Memphis’ last five Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Virginia Tech in this one. I’m probably staying away, however; this will be the first true test of the season for both teams. In any case, the Hokies shot a cool 55.1 percent from the floor with 11-of-23 (47.8 percent) from 3-point range in their last win. Virginia Tech has hit 72 or more points in four of their five outings.

As for Memphis, they’ve notched 74 or more points in all four of their games. The Tigers have done well on defense also, with 65 or fewer points allowed in three of four. I like this one to be competitive the whole way, and if Virginia Tech can keep their momentum going I think they’ll be in line for a cover. Should be a fun game to watch.
