The Marist Red Foxes and the Army Black Knights meet Saturday in college basketball action from Christl Arena. Marist is 2-2 on the year so far and took out VMI in their last appearance. Marist kicked off their year against American, falling 77-73 in the opener. The Red Foxes were able to come back with an 82-67 win over Columbia in their next game, but then dropped another one to Princeton 80-61 in their third outing.
The Red Foxes got back into the win column against VMI in their last outing, but needed overtime to do it. Marist was outscored 41-34 in the second but eventually powered out a 78-74 win. Ricardo Wright led the way on 29 points with five rebounds.
Over on the Army side, they didn’t have any issues against SUNY New Paltz in their first game, but took a loss in a tough matchup against Duke in game two. After that came a pair of wins over Hartford and Merrimack.
Last weekend versus La Salle, Army scored 29 points in each half on the way to a tepid 61-58 defeat. Both Charlie Peterson and Jalen Rucker led the team with 13 points apiece, posting a combined 13 rebounds and three assists.
Army is 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games. The Knights are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Foxes are 4-0 ATS in their last four Saturday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a road underdog. The over is 5-2 in Marist’s last seven road games.
PICK: I’m probably going to take Army here, so long as the team can get back to form after their latest loss. The Knights shot just 31.1 percent from the floor against La Salle and were out-rebounded 46-39 in a flat effort. As for Marist, they posted a spotty shooting effort themselves (38 percent) but also collected 47 rebounds and took enough shots (71) to get the win. I like Army to match up better in this one and bang out the cover, but it should be an interesting matchup.
