The Winthrop Eagles and the Washington Huskies meet Saturday in college basketball action from Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Winthrop is 2-3 this season and fell to Washington State in their last game. As for Washington, they’re 4-3. The Huskies lost to Nevada in their last game on Wednesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Winthrop took on Mary Baldwin in their opener this year and didn’t have too much trouble in a 110-78 win. Another win over Mercer came in game two, but then Winthrop dropped a pair to Middle Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

In game five against Washington State, the Eagles fell behind 47-28 after one half. Despite getting better from there on 58 points, Winthrop still lost 92-86. Patrick Good hit a whopping 11 3-pointers in that one for 33 points and seven rebounds.

Over on the Huskies’ side, they posted a pretty solid 4-2 run over their first six games this year. Washington’s losses came to Wyoming 77-72 and Northern Illinois 71-64; otherwise it was wins over Northern AZ, Texas Southern, George Mason and SD State.

Washington had a decent first half against Nevada in their last game, but were outscored 52-35 in the second half during an 81-62 defeat. Terrell Brown topped the team on 19 points with five boards and four assists.

The Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last four at home and 5-0 ATS in their last five Saturday games. Washington is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine Saturday games. Winthrop is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Winthrop here. The Eagles had a pretty ugly first half against Washington State, but really got the offense going from there and nearly pulled off an epic comeback. Winthrop posted 46.2 percent from the field but were out-rebounded 36-29 and had 29 fouls.

As for Washington, they had an off performance against Nevada, shooting 37.3 percent from the field and losing the rebound battle 44-25. I like the Huskies to stay competitive in this one, but I think Winthrop can pull off the cover.
