The MS Valley State Delta Devils and the Vanderbilt Commodores meet Monday in college basketball action from Vanderbilt University Memorial Gym. MS Valley State is 0-3 on the young season so far. The Devils lost to Ole Miss in their last game. As for Vanderbilt, they’re 4-1 this season and took out Pittsburgh in their most recent appearance. MS Valley State has gotten off to a slow start so far, to say the least. The Delta Devils fell to Saint John’s 119-61 in an opener blowout. Game two was a similar outcome versus California Baptist; MS Valley State lost that one 95-66.

In their third outing of the year, the Delta Devils faced off against Ole Miss. MS Valley State did well in the first half with a 38-33 edge, but was outscored 40-20 from there in a 73-58 defeat. Robert Carpenter led the team on 27 points with seven rebounds.

Over on the Vanderbilt side, they managed a pair of wins in their first two games this year, taking out Alabama State 91-72 and Texas State 79-60. After a 48-37 loss to VCU the Commodores beat Winthrop 77-63 in game four.

Vanderbilt got into the win column again versus Pittsburgh in their last outing. The Commodores put up 44 points in the second half on the way to a 68-52 result. Trey Thomas led the team on 14 points with three rebounds.

Vanderbilt is 5-2 ATS in the last seven as a favorite and 12-3-4 ATS in their last 19 overall. The over is 10-4 in the Commodores’ last 14 home games.
Meanwhile, the Devils are 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall. The over is 4-1 in MS Valley State’s last five road games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Vanderbilt. I’m not going near that spread, though. The Commodores shot a solid 48.1 percent from the field in their last game versus Pitt, with 30 rebounds and 13 team assists. Vanderbilt has had one bad game so far (37 points versus VCU) but otherwise the team is scoring well.

As or MS Valley State, they had a good first half in their last outing but faded wildly down the stretch. I like the Devils to hang around at first in this one as well before Vanderbilt pulls away on the cover.
