The Wagner Seahawks and the Seton Hall Pirates meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Prudential Center. Wagner has two wins so far this year, most recently over VCU. Wagner got off to a good start in their opener versus Hartford, jumping out to a 45-28 halftime lead during an eventual 77-59 win. Will Martinez led the team in that one with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists to his credit.
In game two, Wagner notched another victory. This one was tighter in the first half, but a 31-18 second-half edge sealed the 58-44 win for the Seahawks. Alex Morales doubled up to lead the way with 20 points and 11 boards.
Over on the Seton Hall side, they kicked off the year at 3-0 with wins over Fairleigh Dickinson, Yale and Michigan. After a 79-76 loss to Ohio State, the Pirates got back in the swing of things with wins over California and Bethune-Cookman.
In the B-CU game, Seton Hall had a one-point deficit at halftime, then finished the game on a 51-36 run for an 84-70 win. Jared Rhoden topped the team on 18 points with four rebounds and two assists. Alexis Yetna added 14 points and 13 boards.
Seton Hall is 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 at home. The Pirates are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks are 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 overall. The over is 5-2-1 in Wagner’s last eight overall.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Seton Hall. The Pirates got off to a slow start in the Bethune-Cookman game, but ultimately posted 47.5 percent shooting with a nice 42-24 rebounding edge and 21 team assists. Seton Hall has scored 76 or more points in two of their last three games. I do like Wagner to hang around here for a while, but if Seton Hall gets going I don’t see the Seahawks keeping up.
