The Lipscomb Bisons and the Belmont Bruins meet Thursday in college basketball action from Curb Event Center. Lipscomb is 5-2 this year. The Bisons took out Kentucky Christian in their last game. Lipscomb split their first two games this year, then hit a win streak versus SC State, Loyola-MD and Dayton. The Bisons’ run came to an end with a loss to Tennessee Tech, but they bounced back with a win over Kentucky Christian in their last game.
In the Kentucky Christian matchup, the Bisons were up 45-33 at halftime and finished on a 41-34 run for an 86-67 win. Leading scorer Jacob Ognacevic put up 27 points with eight rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
Over on the Belmont side, they dropped to Ohio in their first game this year, then took out Evansville, Furman and Kennesaw State. Since then the Bruins are 2-2 with wins over Drake and Iona alongside losses to LSU and Dayton.
In the Dayton game, the Bruins had a 34-32 edge in the second half but couldn’t bridge the gap in an eventual 63-61 loss. Nick Muszynski led the way on 23 points with five rebounds and four assists. Ben Sheppard added 14 points as well.
The Bruins are 33-16 ATS in their last 49 Thursday games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven home games. The under is 4-0 in Belmont’s last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Bisons are 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games. Belmont is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’m probably going to try Belmont here. The Bruins need a bounce-back from a sketchy matchup though. In their last game, Belmont shot a solid 45.5 percent from the field but made just 6-of-22 (27.3 percent) from 3-point range and were out-rebounded 28-25. Outside of a couple duds, the Bruins have scored pretty well this season however.
As for the Bisons, they’re coming off a nice outing in a cupcake matchup and will be up against stiffer competition here. Should be a fun game but I think the Bruins can eke out a cover.
