Rhode Island vs Sacred Heart 12/7/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Sacred Heart Pioneers and the Rhode Island Rams meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Ryan Center. Sacred Heart enters this matchup at 3-6 so far. The Pioneers are coming off a Sunday loss to Brown. As for Rhode Island, they’re 6-3 on the season and lost to Providence over the weekend. Sacred Heart went 2-2 over their first four games of the year, taking wins over La Salle and Fisher. Since then it’s been a 1-4 run for the Pioneers with a win versus Lafayette and losses to Fairfield, Stony Brook, NJIT and Brown. 

In the loss to Brown on Sunday, Sacred Heart fell behind 43-33 at halftime and couldn’t make up any ground in a 79-66 loss. Aaron Clarke topped the team on 24 points, and Tyler Thomas added 18 points in 35 minutes. 

Over on the Rhode Island side, they went 4-1 in their first five outings with wins over Boston U, Bryant and Boston College (twice). The Rams have gone 2-2 since then, beating Georgia State and Harvard alongside losses to Florida Gulf Coast and Providence. 

In the Providence loss, Rhode Island scored just 24 points in the first half and 28 more in the second on the way to a 66-52 loss. Jeremy Sheppard was the only Rams player in double-figures with 10 points and four boards. 

The Rams are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 1-4 ATS in their last five Tuesday games. The over is 5-0 in Rhode Island’s last five after an ATS loss. 

Meanwhile, the Pioneers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 after a straight-up loss. The over is 5-2 in Sacred Heart’s last seven road games.

PICK: I’m probably taking Rhode Island, but staying away. The Rams need a good bounce-back after a spotty game versus Providence, where they shot just 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) from 3-point range and were out-rebounded 45-30. Rhode Island has been at 66 points or fewer in three of their last four games as well. 

As for Sacred Heart, they’ve been scoring pretty well lately and I like them to stay in this game until late in the second half. Should be an interesting matchup but I think the Rams have the cover.
