The Canisius Golden Griffins and the Northern Kentucky Norse meet Wednesday in college basketball action from BB&T Arena. Canisius sits at 2-7 so far this year. The Griffins lost to Monmouth in their last game. As for Northern Kentucky, they’re 2-5 on the season and coming off a loss to Fort Wayne. Canisius kicked off their year with a four-game losing streak before finally picking up wins over Fredonia State and Coppin State. The Griffins have since lost three in a row to Cornell, Fairfield and Monmouth to fall to 2-7.

In the Monmouth game, Canisius fell behind quickly and had a 47-26 deficit at halftime. The Griffins scored 39 points from there for a 79-65 loss. Armon Harried led the team with his 20 points, two rebounds and three assists.

Over on the Northern Kentucky side, they went 2-1 over their first three games this year with wins over Wheeling Jesuit and Eastern Michigan. Since then it’s been losses to Western Illinois, DePaul, Cleveland State and Fort Wayne.

In the Fort Wayne game, the Norse posted just 20 points in the first half on the way to a 71-57 loss. Trey Robinson topped the team with 16 points and five rebounds, while Sam Vinson put up 10 points with three assists.

The Norse are 0-7 ATS in their last seven overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. The over is 5-2-1 in Northern Kentucky’s last eight at home.

Meanwhile, the Griffins are 0-5 ATS in their last five overall and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games. Canisius is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to try Canisius, but probably staying away. There’s not a whole lot to like here. In any case, the Griffins didn’t have much chance against Monmouth in their last outing but the team did a few things well. Canisius has been at 68 points or fewer in their last two games, but they had a run of three 70-plus outings before that and can score when the matchup is right. Northern Kentucky probably won’t put up a big defensive fight, so there should be some opportunities for Canisius to get in there and cover.
