The Grambling State Tigers and the UAB Blazers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Bartow Arena. Grambling State is 3-7 so far and coming off a loss to Incarnate Word. Grambling State lost their first four games of the year to Grand Canyon, Texas Tech, New Mexico and Iowa State. The Tigers would win three of their next four games (with a loss to Norfolk State), then fell to UConn and Incarnate Word.
In Saturday’s matchup versus Incarnate Word, the Tigers fell way behind 37-19 at halftime. Grambling State got better from there but couldn’t catch up in a 72-62 loss. Danya Kingsby was the top scorer with 20 points and six boards.
Over on the UAB side, they went 5-1 in their first six games with wins over UNC Asheville, Rhodes, Morehead State, Alabama A&M and New Mexico. After a loss to San Francisco, the Blazers beat East TN State, Saint Louis and Millsaps.
In the Millsaps game on Sunday, UAB didn’t have any trouble. The Blazers took a 46-9 halftime lead, then rolled to a 103-29 blowout. KJ Buffen notched a double-double in that one with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blazers are 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 5-0 ATS in their last five overall. UAB is 19-7 ATS in their last 26 at home.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine overall. Grambling State is 1-8 ATS in their last nine as an underdog.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with UAB. The Blazers have been playing very sharp basketball this year. They’ve fallen by three points or fewer in each of their two losses, and UAB has hit 70 or more points in each of their wins. Grambling State has been at 63 or fewer in three of their last four, and the Tigers are having trouble scoring against pretty much everyone. If UAB is on point here, they shouldn’t have any issues.
