The Green Bay Phoenix and the Minnesota Golden Gophers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Williams Arena. Green Bay is 2-8 so far this year and coming off a loss to Kansas State. As for Minnesota, they’re 9-1 on the year and coming off a win over Texas A&M-CC. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Green Bay went 1-5 over their first six games, falling to Indiana State, Wisconsin, UNC Greensboro, FIU and Weber State along the way. After a pair of wins, the Phoenix lost to Youngstown State, UMKC and Kansas State.

In the matchup versus the Wildcats, the Phoenix gave up 46 points in the first half and 36 more after the break in an 82-64 defeat. Leading scorer Japannah Kellogg put up 15 points and six rebounds, while Kamari McGee added 14 points.

Over on the Minnesota side, they rolled through UMKC, Western Kentucky, Princeton, Fort Wayne, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh and Mississippi State before a loss to Michigan State. Since then it’s been wins over Michigan and Texas A&M-CC.

Matched up against the Islanders last week, the Gophers had a big lead heading into halftime. Minnesota was outscored from there 44-33 but still hung on for the 79-71 win. Payton Willis topped the team on 17 points, and Eric Curry bagged 12 rebounds.

Minnesota is 5-1 ATS in their last six as an underdog and 1-5 ATS in their last six Wednesday games. The Gophers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. The under is 7-1 in Green Bay’s last eight road games.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Minnesota. This one’s going to be a pretty thick line everywhere, though. Still, considering the Gophers have hit 79 or more points in three of their last four games (against some pretty solid competition) it’s safe to say Minnesota will likely put up another big points total here.

As for Green Bay, they’ve been at 64 points or below in each of their last three games and I don’t think they’ll have many opportunities to score in this one. Should be a big Gophers win—the question is by how much.
