Texas vs Alabama State 12/22/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Alabama State Hornets and the Texas Longhorns meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Frank Erwin Center. Alabama State is 2-9 on the season and coming off a loss to Pepperdine. Alabama State posted five straight losses to open up the season, then took out NC Central and Tuskegee. Since then it’s been four more consecutive losses for the Hornets. They’ve fallen to North Alabama, Dayton, Samford and Pepperdine in that stretch. 

In the December 11 game versus Pepperdine, the Hornets were within two points at the break but faded from there in a 79-62 loss. Leading scorer Kenny Strawbridge doubled up on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Gerald Liddell added 14 points. 

Over on the Texas side, they hit a 6-1 run to begin the season. A November 13 loss to Gonzaga was the only blemish. After a loss to Seton Hall, the Longhorns beat AR-Pine Bluff and Stanford to move to 8-2 on the year. 

In the game versus Stanford on Sunday, the Longhorns posted a seven-point edge in the first half and maintained it from there in a 60-53 win. Andrew Jones led the team on 13 points, and Timmy Allen helped out with 11 points and five boards. 

The Longhorns are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 Wednesday games and 1-4 ATS in the last five overall. The under is 6-2 in Texas’ last eight overall. 

Meanwhile, the Hornets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-5 ATS in the last six Wednesday games. Alabama State is 0-4 ATS in the last four overall. 

PICK: I’m probably going to stay with Texas here. The Longhorns shot a pretty solid 42.9 percent against Stanford in their last game, but they were also out-rebounded 33-29 and shot just 4-of-16 (25 percent) from 3-point range. It wasn’t exactly Texas’ best effort, but they got the job done. Texas has been tepid on the scoreboard lately with 63 or fewer points in each of their last three games. That should change here, though; Alabama State has given up 74 or more points in each of their last four outings. There should be plenty of opportunities for the Longhorns to put up a big number in this one.
