Louisiana-Monroe vs Arkansas State 1/8/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the LA-Monroe Warhawks meet Saturday in college basketball action from Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Arkansas State is 10-4 so far this year. The Red Wolves lost to Louisiana in their last game. As for LA-Monroe, they’re 9-6 and fresh off a win over Little Rock. Arkansas State posted a pretty solid 7-3 run over the first 10 games this year, losing to Illinois, Morehead State and Texas Tech. After wins over Air Force, Lyon and Georgia Southern the Red Wolves lost again to Louisiana. 

In the Louisiana matchup on Thursday, the Red Wolves used a 43-38 second half to force overtime. AR State was outscored in the extra period 10-4 and fell 83-77 in a tough one. Top scorer Norchad Omier finished on 29 points with 17 rebounds. 

Over on the LA-Monroe side, they went just 2-4 in their first six games this year with wins over Champion Christian and NW State. After a six-game win streak, the Warhawks lost to Coastal Carolina and App State before a win over Little Rock. 

Matched up against Little Rock on Thursday, LA-Monroe posted 37 points in the first half and 43 more from there in an 80-73 win. Harrison Russell led the team on 28 points and 12 rebounds. Andre Jones added 16 points and nine assists. 

The Warhawks are 6-0 ATS in their last six at home and the over is 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. The over is 4-0 in LA-Monroe’s last four after an ATS win. 

Meanwhile, the Red Wolves are 15-7-1 ATS in the last 23 overall and 7-1 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up loss. AR State is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. 

PICK: I’m probably going to stick with LA-Monroe here. The Warhawks had a couple of spotty efforts against Coastal Carolina and App State, but outside of that they’ve played well lately. LA-Monroe has hit 74 or more points in seven of their last nine games, so they’ve certainly got the scoring dialed in during comparable matchups. 

Arkansas State is on a decent scoring run themselves (68 or more in each of their last four) so this one could potentially be a higher-scoring affair. It’s looking like it’ll be a competitive matchup as well.
