The Lehigh Mountain Hawks and the Bucknell Bison meet Thursday in college basketball action from Sojka Pavilion. Lehigh is 5-11 this year. The Mountain Hawks beat Holy Cross in their last game. Lehigh stumbled out of the gate this year with four straight losses before a win over Columbia. The Mountain Hawks hit another string of six losses and three straight wins from there. After another loss to Army, Lehigh managed a win over Holy Cross.
In Monday’s game versus Holy Cross, the Mountain Hawks posted 35 points in the first half and 42 more from there in a 77-69 win. Leading scorer Marques Wilson put up 17 points’ nd Evan Taylor doubled up on 15 points and 12 boards.
Over on the Bucknell side, they won just three of their first 11 games over Rider, Siena and La Salle. Since then it’s been a string of five straight defeats by Richmond, Boston U, Army, Navy and Loyola MD for the Bison.
In the Loyola MD matchup on Monday, the Bison were outscored 35-32 in the first half and 36-35 from there in a 71-67 defeat. Tops in scoring was Andrew Funk with 21 poitns, three rebounds and one assist.
The Bison are 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 2-6 ATS in their last eight versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 4-1 in Bucknell’s last five at home.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. Lehigh is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Lehigh here, but probably staying away. There’s not a whole lot to like about this matchup. In any case, the Mountain Hawks have looked pretty good over their last five games, going 4-1 in that stretch and hitting 70 or more points in three of them. Lehigh’s not necessarily a dangerous offensive team but they can put up the points in comparable matchups. There should be plenty of opportunities to score against Bucknell, and I think Lehigh can get in there.
