Belmont vs Murray State 1/15/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Murray State Racers and the Belmont Bruins meet Saturday in college basketball action from Curb Event Center. Murray State is a solid 13-2 this year. The Racers beat Tennessee State in their last game. As for Belmont, they’re currently 13-3 and fresh off a win over Tennessee Tech. Murray State posted a 10-2 run over their first dozen games this year. The only losses were to East Tennessee State and Auburn. Since then the Racers have three straight wins over Southeast Missouri State, SIU Edwardsville and Tennessee State. 

Matched up against Tennessee State on Thursday, the Racers held the Tigers to just 16 first-half points during a 67-44 victory. KJ Williams doubled on 12 points and 11 boards, and both Tevin Brown and Trae Hannibal added 11 points apiece. 

Over on the Belmont side, they were 5-3 over their first eight this year with losses to Ohio, LSU and Dayton. Since then it’s been wins over Lipscomb, Samford, Saint Louis, Chattanooga, Bethel IN, SEMO, TN-Martin and Tennessee Tech. 

In the Tennessee Tech matchup on Thursday, the Bruins went into halftime with a nice 50-28 lead. Belmont cruised from there toward a 92-77 win. Both Ben Sheppard and Will Richard notched 18 points apiece with 11 combined rebounds. 

The Bruins are 5-2-1 ATS in the last eight at home and 6-1 ATS in the last seven overall. Belmont is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 Saturday games. 

Meanwhile, the Racers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and the over is 5-2 in their last seven overall. The over is 5-2 in Murray State’s last seven Saturday games. 

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Belmont. This should be a pretty fun and competitive game any way you look at it, though. The Bruins have scored very well over this eight-game win streak, with 76 or more points in seven of those outings. Murray State is no slouch in scoring either, so if both teams are on this one could turn into a shootout. I like Belmont to escape with a cover in a higher-scoring matchup, and it should be a great one to watch.
