Rhode Island vs George Washington 1/22/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The George Washington Colonials and the Rhode Island Rams meet Saturday in college basketball action from Ryan Center. George Washington enters this matchup at 5-11 and fresh off a loss to Saint Joseph’s. As for Rhode Island, they’re sitting at 12-4 so far. George Washington got off to a rough 2-8 start this year with wins over only St. Francis PA and Wright State. It’s been a 3-3 run for the Colonials since then. The wins have been over Coppin State, Radford and George Mason. The losses were to Dayton, VCU and Saint Joseph’s. 

In the Saint Joseph’s game on Wednesday, the Colonials trailed 38-32 at halftime. Things didn’t get any better from there, and George Washington ended up losing 72-61. Leading scorer Joe Bamisile posted 22 points with four rebounds. 

Over on the Rhode Island side, they hit a 9-4 start over their first 13 games with losses to Tulsa, Florida Gulf Coast, Providence and Davidson along the way. The last three games have been wins over Saint Joseph’s, UMass and La Salle. 

In the La Salle matchup back on Wednesday, the Rams carried a 35-27 deficit into halftime. Rhode Island stormed back on a 29-19 run from there for the 56-54 win. Makhel and Makhi Mitchell each notched 10 points, combining for six boards as well. 

The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and the under is 21-9 in their last 30 at home. The over is 5-1 in Rhode Island’s last six Saturday games.
Meanwhile, GW is 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games and 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 overall. The under is 14-6 in the Colonials’ last 20 overall. 

PICK: I’m staying with Rhode Island. The Rams had a spotty outing versus La Salle in their last game, but prior to that the offense had been working quite well. Rhode Island had hit 68 or more points in their six previous games; overall they’re scoring pretty well since late November or so. As for George Washington, they’ve been at 61 points or below in three of their last four. So long as Rhode Island gets back into that scoring groove the Rams should be fine on a cover.
