The St. John’s Red Storm and the Seton Hall Pirates meet Monday in college basketball action from Walsh Gymnasium. St. John’s is sitting at 10-7 so far this year. As for Seton Hall, they’re currently 12-5 on the season. This will be a rematch of Saturday’s game, in which the Pirates took a six-point victory. St. John’s got off to a nice 9-3 start this year, losing to only Indiana, Kansas and Pittsburgh. It’s been a 1-4 run since then, though. The Storm have a win over Georgetown mixed with losses to Providence, UConn, Creighton and Seton Hall in that time.

In the Pirates matchup on Saturday, St. John’s held strong in the first half with a 28-28 tie. The Storm were outscored 38-32 from there in a 66-60 loss. Leading the team’s scoring was Aaron Wheeler with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Over on the Seton Hall side, they started out at 11-3 this year. The losses came to Ohio State, Providence and Villanova in that time. After losses to DePaul and Marquette in their next pair, the Pirates posted the Saturday victory over St. John’s.

Seton Hall got some solid offensive contributions from their starters in Saturday’s 66-60 victory. Myles Cale led the team with 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Alexis Yetna doubled up on 16 points and 15 rebounds in 30 minutes as well.

The Pirates are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 at home and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. The over is 6-1 in Seton Hall’s last seven at home.
Meanwhile, the Storm are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 overall and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss. The over is 4-0 in St. John’s last four Monday games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Seton Hall, even though that line is a little thick for my liking. Neither one of these teams shot all that well in Saturday’s game: the Pirates hit just 33.8 percent from the floor and St. John’s was at 29.3 percent. Seton Hall also coughed up 17 turnovers to St. John’s nine, but the Pirates’ saving grace was their 60-43 rebounding advantage.

This rematch is likely going to be another dogfight, but with the change in location Seton Hall should be much more comfortable. I like this one to be tight most of the way with the Pirates eking out a cover late.
