UC San Diego vs Cal Poly 1/27/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Cal Poly Mustangs and the UC-San Diego Tritons meet in college basketball action from the RIMAC Arena on Thursday night.

The Cal Poly Mustangs will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 69-56 loss to Hawaii last time out. Alimamy Koroma leads the Mustangs in scoring with 13.4 PPG along with 4.9 RPG while Jacob Davison has 11.9 PPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Cal Poly so far this season. Trevon Taylor has a team-high 5.3 RPG and Camren Pierce has 4 APG as well for the Mustangs so far this season. The UC-San Diego Tritons will look to snap a five-game losing skid after an 83-80 loss to CSU-Fullerton last time out. Toni Rocak leads the Tritons in scoring and rebounding with 15.6 PPG and 6.6 RPG while Francis Nwaokone has 11.1 PPG with 5.4 RPG and Bryce Pope has 11.3 PPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for UCSD so far this season. Jace Roquemore leads the Tritons in assists with 2.6 APG this season. As a team, UC-San Diego is averaging 70.2 PPG on 45.1% shooting from the field, 36.2% from three and 71.3% from the foul line while allowing 68.8 PPG on 45.2% shooting from the field and 30.1% from three this season.

I get the case to be made either way here, as Cal Poly is struggling, but UCSD has lost five in a row coming into this game. With that said, I’m still leaning towards UC-San Diego because scoring issues have been well-documented with the Mustangs for some time now and while the Tritons have had issues, they’re a bit more reliable offensively and I think they wal out of their home arena with a win and cover here.
