The UCLA Bruins and the Arizona State Sun Devils meet Saturday in college basketball action from ASU Wells Fargo Arena. UCLA is currently 16-3 on the year. The Bruins lost to Arizona in their last game. As for Arizona State, they’re sitting at 6-13 and coming off a loss to USC. UCLA hit a nice 10-2 stretch in their first dozen games this year, falling to only Gonzaga and Oregon. After a win streak over Oregon State, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, California and Stanford the Bruins fell to Arizona in their last game.
Back on Thursday versus Arizona, UCLA was outscored 30-42 in the first half. The Bruins got better from there but ultimately lost 76-66. Jules Bernard topped the team on 15 points, and Jaime Jaquez added 13 points and six boards.
Over on the Arizona State side, they managed a 5-6 run over the first 11 games but have only won once since then. The Sun Devils have notched losses to Stanford, USC, Arizona and USC again over their last quartet of games.
Matched up against USC on Thursday, the Sun Devils kept the pace pretty well over the course of the game but still lost 58-53. Tops in scoring was Jalen Graham with 19 points with five rebounds, and Kimani Lawrence added 14 points.
The Sun Devils are 15-34-2 ATS in their last 51 overall and 7-20-1 ATS in their last 28 at home. Arizona State is 4-9 ATS in the last 13 Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Bruins are 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine Saturday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 5-1 in UCLA’s last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with UCLA, even though they didn’t play particularly well against Arizona in their last outing (the line is a bit thick as well). Prior to that, the Bruins had given up 65 or fewer points in six straight games. UCLA isn’t the most dynamic scoring team out there, but they can put the clamps down on defense. That’s bad news for Arizona State; they’ve scored 56 points or fewer in each of their last three games. UCLA should have a wide path to a cover opportunity here.
