The Citadel Bulldogs and the VMI Keydets meet Saturday in college basketball action from Cameron Hall. The Citadel played UNC Greensboro in their last outing on Thursday. The Bulldogs ended up losing by 20 points. As for VMI, they’re coming off a Thursday matchup versus Mercer. In that one the Keydets managed a six-point win. The Citadel started out the year at 7-7 through their first 14 games. Over the next eight, the Bulldogs hit a rough 3-5 stretch. The victories during that time came against only East Tennessee State, Western Carolina and Samford.

On Thursday versus UNC Greensboro, the Bulldogs were outscored 28-44 in the first half and 38-42 in the second on the way to an 86-66 blowout loss. Jason Roche put up 23 points to lead the way, and Hayden Brown doubled up on 21 points and 10 boards.

Over on the VMI side, they hit an 11-8 run over the first 19 games this year. After losses to Chattanooga and Furman in the next pair, the Keydets hit a win streak over East Tennessee State, UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina.

Matched up against Mercer on Thursday, the Keydets had a 40-34 advantage by the break. VMI was able to keep the pace from there in an 85-79 win. Leading scorer Jake Stephens put up 27 points with 10 rebounds and five assists.

The Keydets are 19-7 ATS in the last 26 at home and 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games. VMI is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 5-1 in the Citadel’s last six road games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with VMI. The Keydets are rolling right along in this four-game win streak. They’ve hit 76 or more points in each of those games, and 74 points or more in eight of their last nine outings.

These teams last met up on January 15. In that one, VMI powered out a 90-85 road victory. This one should be a pretty high-scoring game as well, and I like the Keydets to bag another cover.
