The Hofstra Pride and the Elon Phoenix meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Schar Center. Hofstra is 17-9 on the year so far. the Pride beat Delaware in their last game. Hofstra started the year out at a sketchy 1-4 but they’ve righted the ship since then. The Pride lost to UNC Wilmington and Towson early this month, but since have beaten James Madison, UNC Wilmington, Drexel and Delaware in their last four.
Matched up against Delaware on Saturday, the Pride posted 39 points in the first half and 41 more in the second in an 80-66 win. Leading the scoring was Aaron Estrada with 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Over on the Elon side, their year began at 2-1 but the Phoenix haven’t been able to win consecutive games since. Elon is 3-3 in the last half-dozen games, taking losses to William & Mary, Charleston and Towson during that stretch.
On Saturday versus Towson, the Phoenix were blown out 16-42 in the first half. Elon added a 34-44 deficit in the second for a rough 86-50 defeat. No Phoenix player hit double-figures; Hunter McIntosh was the closest on nine points and one assist.
Elon is 1-6 ATS in the last seven Tuesday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home. The under is 5-1 in Elon’s last six Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Pride are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games and 40-19-1 ATS in the last 60 road games. The under is 7-1 in Hofstra’s last eight after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Hofstra in this one. The Pride have been scoring very well this year; they’ve hit 68 or more points in each of their last 10 games, going 8-2 in that time. Simply put, Hofstra is playing great right now. As for Elon, they’ve hit 70 points in just two of their last six outings. I don’t think the Phoenix have the legs to stay with Hofstra if the Pride get off to a good start here.
