The UConn Huskies and the Georgetown Hoyas meet Sunday in college basketball action from Capital One Arena. UConn is currently 20-7 on the year. The Huskies beat Villanova in their last game. UConn had one bad 1-3 stretch during early February, but outside of that the team hasn’t lost consecutive games all season. The Huskies are currently riding a four-game win streak, taking out St. John’s, Seton Hall, Xavier and Villanova along the way.
Matched up against Villanova on Tuesday, the Huskies had a slim 33-32 lead by halftime. UConn hit a 38-37 run in the second during a 71-69 victory. Tops in scoring was Adama Sanogo with 20 points, six boards and three assists.
Over on the Hoyas’ side, it’s been a rough year so far. Georgetown started out the year on a decent 6-4 clip, but they haven’t been able to win a game since December 15. The Hoyas have fallen to Marquette, Villanova and DePaul in the last trio.
In the DePaul game, Georgetown was outscored by four points in the first half. The Hoyas hit a 39-38 run in the second but it wasn’t enough in a 68-65 loss. Aminu Mohammed led the team on his 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Hoyas are 2-7 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games. Georgetown is 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine overall. UConn is 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with UConn here. Probably not going near this one, though. The Huskies are looking pretty solid over this 5-1 stretch; they’ve hit 68 or more points in five of those six outings and shouldn’t have much issue putting up points here.
The last time these teams met up, UConn posted a 96-73 blowout win at home. This one may not be such a rout, but I don’t think Georgetown can keep up if the Huskies get going.
