NCAA Tournament: Seton Hall vs TCU 3/18/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Seton Hall Pirates and TCU Horned Frogs meet Friday in NCAA Tournament First Round college basketball action from Viejas Arena. TCU is 20-12 on the season overall. The Frogs lost to Kansas in conference tourney activity on Friday. As for Seton Hall, they’re 21-10 this year and fell to UConn in their last game. TCU went into conference play this year at 10-1, but it’s been a choppy stretch since then. The Frogs are 3-3 in their last six outings. The wins have come versus Texas Tech, Kansas and Texas; the losses were to Kansas, West Virginia and Kansas again. 

On Friday in tournament activity versus the Jayhawks, TCU was down by 14 points at halftime. The Horned Frogs outscored Kansas 32-31 the rest of the way but lost 75-62. Chuck O’Bannon was the lead team scorer with 15 points and seven boards. 

Over on the Seton Hall side, they began their conference run at 9-1, then went just 6-8 over the next 14 outings. The Pirates would then rattle off a six-game win streak including a tourney win over Georgetown, but they fell to UConn in their last game Thursday. 

In the Thursday game versus the Huskies, the Pirates scored just 18 points in the first half. Seton Hall got better in the second with 34 points, however the team lost 62-52. Myles Cale was the top scorer with his 17 points and six rebounds. 

PICK: I’m going to try TCU here. The Frogs have had the misfortune of facing off against some very tough conference teams lately. They’ve done well in some games (beating Texas Tech, Kansas and Texas) but not so great in others. That said, TCU should have a much more comparable matchup in this game. 

As for Seton Hall, they’ve had a few close escapes during this current 6-1 run, and they’ve been at 65 points or fewer in each of the last three. If TCU can find some offense early in this one, I think they’ll be well on the way to a cover/win.
