Texas Southern has gotten a lot of games in so far, but the results haven’t been great. The Tigers kicked things off with a loss to San Francisco 90-77, then fell to Texas Tech 78-54. After a 67-66 win over Arizona State, Texas Southern lost to Oral Roberts 82-64 on Tuesday.

In Wednesday’s matchup versus Houston, Texas Southern was overwhelmed in the first half with a 43-20 deficit. The Tigers continued to struggle after halftime and lost 83-48. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Zytarious Mortle with 15 points.

Over on the Auburn side, their year opened up with a game versus George Mason. The Tigers scored 39 points in the second half during a 70-52 win there. In game two, Auburn kept it rolling with a 67-59 win over South Florida.

On Tuesday in the Winthrop matchup, Auburn was up by 13 points by the break. The Tigers kicked in another 50 points after that and took a blowout win 89-65. Johni Broome topped the team on 18 points and 13 rebounds.

PICK: I’m likely going to stay with Auburn. The Tigers haven’t had a ton of trouble so far this year, and they’re putting up pretty consistent efforts. Granted, Auburn hasn’t really been challenged yet either. Still, the Tigers are coming off a nice 46.6 percent shooting with 53 rebounds (25 offensive) in the Winthrop win. It’s going to be tough for Texas Southern to keep any kind of pace in this one.
