Belmont vs Morehead State 2/10/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Morehead State Eagles and the Belmont Bruins meet Thursday in college basketball action from Curb Event Center. Morehead State is 19-6 on the year so far. The Eagles beat Austin Peay in their last game. As for Belmont, they’re 20-5 this season and coming off a win over Austin Peay as well. Morehead State managed a 6-5 run over their first 11 games, but they’ve only recorded one L since then. The Eagles lost to Murray State on January 29, but since have taken out Tennessee Tech (twice) and Austin Peay over their last trio. 

In the Austin Peay game on Saturday, the Eagles put up 43 points in the first half and 34 more in the second on the way to a nice 77-52 win. Johni Broome led the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Skyelar Potter added 13 points. 

Over on the Belmont side, they won 14 of their first 19 games; the losses were to Ohio, LSU, Dayton, Murray State and Morehead State. Since then it’s been a six-game win streak for the Bruins, culminating in a victory over Austin Peay. 

Matched up against Austin Peay on Monday, the Bruins were down 24-31 at halftime. Belmont posted a 48-27 run from there in a 72-58 comeback win. Ben Sheppard led the way on 23 points, and Nick Muszynski added 16 points with four assists. 

The Bruins are 2-6 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. The over is 5-1 in Belmont’s last six Thursday games. 

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. Morehead State is 7-2 ATS in their last nine Thursday games. 

PICK: I’m going to try Belmont here. This one’s something of a coin-flip proposition, though; both teams have been playing very well lately. The Bruins’ last loss was 83-74 at Morehead State back on January 20. Belmont fell behind 33-44 at halftime in that one and couldn’t come back. 

The Bruins are going to have to get off to a faster start in this rematch, as well as improve on the 34-43 rebounding deficit from the first time around. This should be a pretty excellent game, and I like the Bruins to get it together and power out a tight cover.
