The Idaho State Bengals and the BYU Cougars meet Monday in college basketball action from Marriott Center. Idaho State managed to go just 7-23 overall last year, landing near the bottom of the Big Sky standings. As for BYU, they went 24-11 in 2021-22 and made it to the quarterfinals of the NIT. Idaho State failed to match their win total (13) from a season prior in 2021-22, going just 7-23 overall and 5-15 in the Big Sky Conference matchups. That result wold leave Idaho State just one spot out of the basement in the standings, ahead of only Northern Arizona.
The Bengals had a rough run for most of the season, losing 16 of 18 games during one stretch alone. After a 1-4 run to finish, Idaho State fell to Portland State 66-52 in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament to officially end their campaign.

PICK: Probably staying with BYU. The Cougars lost a host of players from last year due to graduation/transfer, including Alex Barcello and Te’Jon Lucas. The good news is that freshman (now sophomore) sensation Fouss Traore is back in action for BYU, and he’ll be asked to take a significant role among a crop of new faces including transfer guard Rudi Williams (Coastal Carolina). The defense is certainly going to have to improve, but there’s plenty to work with on the roster.
