The Charlotte 49ers and the Detroit Mercy Titans meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Calihan Hall. Charlotte is 4-1 so far this year. The 49ers los to UMass in their last game. As for Detroit, they’re 2-3 following a loss to Bryant on Monday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Charlotte kicked off their season with an 82-59 win over Coppin State. The 49ers took a blowout win over MD-Eastern Shore 80-47, then got by Boise State 54-42. Game four was another win, this time 68-65 over Tulsa.

The 49ers’ win streak came to a halt in their last game versus UMass. Charlotte faced a 38-28 deficit going into the second half and ended up losing 60-54. Aly Khalifa led the team on 12 points, and Igor Milicic added 11 points .

Over on the Detroit side, they beat Rochester 93-65 in their opener but fell to Boston College 70-66 in game two. The Titans would then beat Ohio 88-74 before a loss to Florida Atlantic 76-55 back on Saturday.

In the Monday game versus Bryant, Detroit recorded another loss. The Titans were within one point going into the second half, but were outscored 42-33 from there in a 98-88 loss. Antoine Davis led the way on 29 points, and Jayden Stone had 24 points.

PICK: I’m going with Charlotte. The 49ers couldn’t quite topple a decent UMass team in their last outing. Charlotte shot a tepid 36.7 percent from the floor with 23.8 (5-of-21) from 3-point range and a 35-25 rebounding deficit. The bad first half really did the Niners in, so they’ll want to get off to a good start in this one. Detroit has hit 88 or more points in three of their five games so far; this one could end up a high-scoring affair.
