The Elon Phoenix and the Drexel Dragons meet Thursday in college basketball action from Daskalakis Athletic Center. Elon enters this matchup at 2-11 so far following a loss to Indiana. As for Drexel, they’re 6-6 on the season. The Dragons beat Delaware State in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Elon has wins this year over only Erskine and JWU-Charlotte. Otherwise it’s been losses to East TN State, Harvard, North Dakota, NC State, Jacksonville Sate, Radford, High Point, UNCG, Presbyterian, Valparaiso and Indiana.

In the Indiana matchup last Tuesday, the Phoenix were drilled 47-29 in the first half alone. Elon scored 43 points in the second half and limped to the 96-72 loss. Leading scorer Max Mackinnon put up 19 points with six rebounds.

Over on the Drexel side, they went 3-3 over their first six games this year, beating Old Dominion, Arcadia and TX-Arlington. The Dragons posted another 3-3 run after that with wins over Lafayette, La Salle and Delaware State.

In the Delaware State matchup back on December 17, Drexel didn’t have any problems. The Dragons scored 48 in the first half and 37 in the second for an 85-52 win. Luke House was the leading scorer on the team with 25 points and five rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Drexel. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Dragons play—they had a postponed matchup versus Fairfield recently—however they should be just fine in this one. Drexel hasn’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard lately though; they’ve hit 65 or fewer points in five of the last six games. Considering Elon’s struggles this season Drexel should have a favorable matchup in store if the Dragons can execute.
