James Madison went 9-2 in their first 11 games, then stopped for postponements from December 11 to January 9. Since then the Dukes are just 4-6 with losses to Hofstra, Elon, UNC Wilmington, Drexel, Delaware and Hofstra again in that stretch.
In the Saturday rematch versus Hofstra, the Dukes played a tight game the whole way and had to go to overtime. JMU was outscored 14-7 in that period for an 85-78 loss. Charles Falden led the team on 25 points with five rebounds.
Over on the Drexel side, they hit a 5-5 run out of the gate this year, then were postponed from December 14 to January 3. It’s been a 5-5 stretch for the Dragons since then. They’ve beaten Towson, Northeastern, Elon, James Madison and Delaware in that time.
Matched up against the Hens on Thursday, the Dragons managed a 45-36 run in the first half and held on for the 76-68 win. Tops in scoring was Malik Martin with 21 points and seven boards. Camren Wynter added 17 points with five assists.
The Dragons are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 5-13-1 ATS in their last 19 Monday games. The under is 25-10 in Drexel’s last 35 Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Dukes are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. The over is 4-0 in JMU’s last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Drexel here. Neither squad has been very consistent lately though, so it’s tough to know what to expect. The last time these teams met up back on January 27, Drexel pulled off an 88-82 win. The Dragons shot 55.4 percent from the field in that one and won the rebounding battle 35-29.
This rematch won’t be an exact duplicate of course, but considering Drexel has scored pretty well more often than not lately I’d say this one will be a high-total affair as well. Should be fun, but I think the Dragons can eke out a cover.
