Houston Baptist vs Northwestern State 2/3/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Northwestern State Demons and the Houston Baptist Huskies meet Thursday in college basketball action from Sharp Gymnasium. Northwestern State is 6-16 on the year so far. The Demons beat Texas A&M-CC in their last outing. As for Houston Baptist, they’re 6-12 this season and coming off a loss to Nicholls State. Northwestern State hit a 4-16 skid over their first 20 games this year. The only wins were over Champion Christian, Dallas Christian, SW Adventist and Incarnate Word. The last pair of games have been wins over Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-CC, however. 

In the Islanders matchup over the weekend, the Demons posted a 41-31 edge in the first half and a 49-45 run from there in a 90-76 win. Leading Northwestern State scorer Carvell Teasett posted 27 points with three rebounds. 

Over on the Houston Baptist side, they went 4-10 over their first 14 outings with victories over Barclay, SW Adventist, Champion Christian and Ecclesia. After two more wins over Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-CC the Huskies lost to New Orleans and Nicholls State. 

Matched up against the Colonels on Saturday, the Huskies held a slim 34-33 lead at the break. Houston Baptist posted a 40-27 deficit from there in a 73-61 loss. Leading Huskies scorer Darius Lee finished on 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. 

The Huskies are 6-20-1 ATS in the last 27 at home and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 overall. The under is 5-2 in Houston Baptist’s last seven overall. 

Meanwhile, the Demons are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven Thursday games. The over is 6-2-1 in Northwestern State’s last nine overall. 

PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Northwestern State here. Granted, there’s not much intrigue going on in this game if you’re not a fan of either team. That said, the Demons are coming off a nice performance against a pretty good Texas A&M-CC team. Northwestern State shot 49.2 percent with 30 rebounds and 17 team assists in that win. 

Both these teams are struggling this year, but Northwestern State has at least been scoring well. They’ve hit 77 or more points in three straight games. A lot of different things could happen here, but I like the Demons slightly better on a potential cover/win.
